A 20 minute drive from the city, this beach is popular with the locals and in a very upscale area of the city (the founder of Swiffer had his house there for years). The beach is free and at the bottom of a very long set of stairs. Parking can be limited, so plan accordingly. The summer sees big crowds as families head there to beat the heat and enjoy the beautiful lakeshore.
This museum is incredible for adults, especially those that love music. It is good for older kids who can appreciate music. It is not great for little kids. The artifacts are awesome, but don’t make a ton of sense to littles and there isn’t anything interactive to engage them. While it is very easy to navigate, it’s on the louder side in certain spots and can be very overstimulating for kiddos. If you have a sitter to let them run around the grassy area outside, head in, otherwise, I’d suggest waiting until they are older or bringing headphones.
Home to the Monsters, Cavs and soon to be WNBA expansion team, the arena has a spacious sensory and nursing mother’s room to create family-friendly spaces. All teams have poster creation stations and interactive elements around the concourse specifically for kids and families. Food prices have gone up recently so plan accordingly for feeding the family at the event. Very kid-friendly entertainment and the mascot is walking around the whole game, happy to take photos and engage.

Toledo Botanical Gardens Metropark:
A sprawling park with different gardens, gazebos and historic structures. The rose garden was in full bloom when we went in August and was beautiful and easy to walk around. The paths were easy to follow but best navigated with a sturdy-wheeled stroller or wearing the baby to most enjoy the experience.
Lake Erie:
Right on the shore, there are beautiful beach parks and boardwalks very close to Toledo to enjoy the scenery and beat the heat in the summer. We stopped at a little hamburger spot then walked over to the shore where my daughter squealed because of how cold the water was in early September. I’m told it gets warm at points in the year, but our experience was pretty cold, so we didn’t fully go in.
