San Francisco [SFO]

After living in the Bay Area for years, I got to know the old SFO very well and when I flew through it again with kiddos I had low expectations.  I was pleasantly surprised by the new amenities that came with the renovations.

Nursing Mother’s Space

  • Location: Almost all terminals have a new, conveniently located nursing room. There was overhead signage pointing to the closest ones, in this case F16.

  • Access: A latch indicates if it is vacant or occupied.  I’d note this one is right next to the restrooms and both times I went by men were clumped around the door waiting (for their travel buddies?) to come out of the restrooms so I had to weave through to get inside.

  • Set-up: The one in F terminal was well-appointed with a diaper pail, chair and sink with changing pad, however it had a very bad odor, like moldy carpet, when I went in Sept. 2023. It wasn’t nearly as nice as the one on D concourse that I’d visited before.

Other

  • The women’s bathrooms in E concourse had a Changing Room in the bathroom, so instead of having to change your kids clothes on the bathroom floor, you could use this.  It didn’t have a diaper changing set-up, was more like a fitting room for travelers, especially handy if taking a red-eye and you wanted to prep.

Kids Activities

  • Kids Play Area: There is a small kids play area on the F Concourse, I actually walked past it before noticing it, even though I was looking for it.  It had a small tunnel, a science tube and boxes that changed colors.  It is fairly minimal, so likely, you won’t find this worth the walk, but it’s there if you need to kill a lot of time.

  • Bookstore: There is a great bookstore between E & F concourses with great selections of reads for all ages and some fun things for kids to look at to kill time.
